Cut-a-thon for Haiti a big success

February 3rd, 2010

Gina Palmateer, proprietor of the Allure Hair Salon in Highland, said that last Sunday’s benefit Cut-a-thon for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti was a huge success. They offered hair cuts, pedicures, manicures, waxing and mini-facials that brought in $534.

Palmateer sold more than 500 raffle tickets with 50 prizes, 40 area businesses donated items, Donna Bihn of Partylite made a donation and personal contributions brought the total to $1,939.

Deisings Bakery and Angela Palmateer donated food, coffee came from Donna Bellacicco, and PDQ donated the printing of the fliers to promote the event.

“It was so exciting to be able to call the people and give them the good news of winning the raffle,” Palmateer said. “I cannot believe how many people came out to help support. I am so glad that I did this, and am so proud of this community for coming together.”

Palmateer said she will do this again in the future.

“I already have ideas for my projects,” she said. “Next time it will be closer to home. I hope to keep putting my skills to work and helping others. I am so proud of the girls for all of their hard work and for giving up their Sunday.”

Palmateer’s “girls” are Kristen Greene, Emily Walis, Rachael Zuleg, Marisa Bellacicco, Kayla Bellacicco and Hannah DeRobertis, who helped make the day a very special one.

Palmateer said the money will be sent to Haiti through her church, St. Joseph’s in New Paltz, to the Catholic Relief Services.
