PB’s Martin qualifies for states
Pine Bush’s Terry Martin finally got his wish. Martin qualified during the state qualifier Sunday at West Point for the 55-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 8.00, just beating Nick O’Brien, his teammate, who also qualified with a time of 8.13.
Martin then qualified for the long jump, clearing 20-feet, nine inches.
“All I wanted to do is go to states,” said Martin, a junior.
O’Brien, also a junior, qualified in the pole vault, clearing 13-feet, six inches, for a second-place tie with Besnik Palushi, of Pine Plains. Wallkill’s Dan Putnam won the pole vault, clearing 14-feet.
Drew Krotje, also a Pine Bush junior, qualified for the 300-meter dash with a third-place finish time 38.64.
“I didn’t think I was going to make it,” said Krotje.
Qualifying in the long jump was Krotje’s original plan – but that changed.
“I had a real bad day,“ he said, of the long jump.
Wallkill’s Dylan Barringer, a senior, qualified for the 1,600-meter run with a second-place finish time of 4:36.01
Pine Bush’s Amber Passalaqua won the 300-meter dash with a time of 42.72, and qualified in the high jump, clearing five-feet, two inches for a second-place finish.
She missed five-feet, four inches in the high jump, after taking time away from the bar to run in the prelims of the 300-meter dash.
“I feel good about the 300, but not so good about high jump because I was tired,” she said.
Pine Bush’s Nicole Kulaga took second-place in the pole vault, clearing nine-feet, six inches, to qualify for the state meet.
