Newburgh boys oust Walden 10-5

July 21st, 2010

It was the seventh meeting between the two friendly rivals, senior boys Little League teams from the City of Newburgh and Walden, in Pine Bush, Wednesday, July 14.

And Newburgh pulled out a 10-5 victory. Miquel Lamberti, Anthony Feuerbach, Sean Patterson and Steve Rockefellow, all scored two runs in the season’s final meeting, which eliminated Walden.

“It was evenly spread out,” said Bill Feuerbach, Newburgh’s coach.

Feuerbach doubled and knocked in a pair. Laron Barrett had three hits and an RBI, Shadere Smith, Newburgh’s starter, also had two hits, while knocking in two runs.

Walden’s Josh Colon had three hits while Mark Sanchez, his teammate, knocked in a pair of runs with two hits.

There were no senior all-star teams in Newburgh or in Walden, so both teams played each other six times, each going 3-3 before their final meeting in Pine Bush.

“We had a lot of serious games throughout the year, both at home and out in Walden. It was a pleasure playing each other all year,” said Feuerbach.

To get to their final meeting with Newburgh, Walden had to beat Goshen, Tuesday, July 13 in the City of  Newburgh, and Feuerbach’s team went to the  game, cheering on Walden, so they could meet for a rubber game.

“They are the nicest group of kids we’ve ever played,” said Terry Cody, Walden’s coach.

“They are respectful, and we had a great time with them.”

As they met for the final time, all the players started to enjoy before the first pitch and through the final out.

“We loved it. When I got here today, they were warming up together in the outfield,” said Cody.

After Newburgh beat Walden, they traveled to the Town of Wallkill and beat Greenwood Lake 7-6. Smith had two hits, while knocking in a pair of runs. Rockefellow also scored three runs for Newburgh.
