From the Mid Hudson to the Greek Isles
The Pine Bush Area Arts Council is pleased to announce, watercolorist Mickie MacMillan will be exhibiting her third solo show at the Crawford Government Center, Sept. 4 to Oct. 3.
“From Mid Hudson to Greece” will include 15-20 framed artworks of the Hudson Valley and works from her recent trip to Greece. At the reception MacMillan will also display a portfolio of matted unframed works.
MacMillan found the scenery in Greece awe inspiring. “Greece is a beautiful country with many unusual scenes and ruins. To go back in time and see the magnificent structures as they once were, was incredible. I hope to do justice to the Greek Isles. I also love the old farms and historic homes of the Hudson Valley area.”
Mickie also loves to paint flowers, which gives her a chance to use different colors and a change of s After taking a workshop in watercolors over 40 years ago, she fell in love with painting. Mickie prefers watercolors over other mediums because of their “simplicity and quickness.”
“With watercolor, the paint and the water do most of the work. You can get some lovely effects almost by accident, and they are often happy accidents” said MacMillan.
Since then she has taken workshops with many well known artists, including Pat Morgan, Steve Blumenthal, and Len DeVirgilio of the Wallkill River School.
Mickie is a member of the Middletown Art Group, the Wallkill River School, the Northeast Watercolor Society. She has exhibited with the Pine Bush Chamber of Commerce art tour for the last two years.
The Northeast Watercolor Society has accepted MacMillan’s work into the International Juried Watercolor Show in Kent, CT. from October through November, an honor at the international level.
Mickie received an “Award of Excellence” from the Middletown Art Group for “Winter in Montgomery”, a watercolor of a local barn that she enjoys painting at different times of the day and year. “The essence of my painting is to try to capture what I see with spontaneity and control. Sometimes it’s the way light and shadow join, sometimes it’s color and form. Watercolor is without limits,” said MacMillan.
The reception for “From Mid Hudson to Greece” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Crawford Government Center, 121 Rt. 302, Pine Bush. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
