Hannaford wins Walden approval
During their meeting last week, the Architectural Review Board for the Village of Walden granted the last necessary approval for renovation of the Thruway Plaza including the new Hannaford supermarket.
The board reviewed the exterior finishes and signs for the project, and other than asking for the addition of two windows to the front of the store, had no problems with the proposed look of the plaza. The look and colors will be the same as many of the stores in the chain, including the store in Pine Bush.
“I think it’s going to look great,” said board member Jose DeJesus.
The pizza place will remain the way it is, while the rest of the plaza’s look will be changed to conform to the colors of Hannaford. The idea is to create one cohesive look for the plaza.
The board passed motions to approve the colors, material and signage for the project, the last approvals needed for the project to move forward.
The pharmacy is anticipated to move in the middle of February.
The next step will be the closure and liquidation of the Thruway Market. The building will then be vacated and the process for demolition of the building will begin.
The new Hannaford store will not open for eight to 12 months after the construction’s start date, which has not yet been nailed down.
