Highland wins two in wrestling tournament
Highland opened Duals tournament Sunday with victories over Lourdes and Ellenville.
The Huskies beat Lourdes 60-30 and Ellenville 66-15. Later in the day, Newburgh beat the Huskies 77-3, and Austin Ingraham, Highland’s 106-pounder, scored the team’s only points with a 6-3 decision over Newburgh’s Johnny Bastone after the Goldback earned his 100th career victory earlier against Ellenville.
Ingraham opened the tournament with a forfeit against Lourdes. He then pinned Ellenville’s Jon Candelaria in the first round and improved 29-4 for the season.
“The moves are coming together,” said Ingraham.
Against Ellenville, Jesus Castellanos, at 113 pounds, Grey Muller, at 126 pounds, Sal Mazzella, at 138 pounds, Osmaan Shahid, at 160-pounds, all had pins for Highland.
Mazzella also had a pin against Lourdes’ Connor Loughlin. Mike Feliciano, wrestling at 113 pounds for Highland, pinned Lourdes’ Christian Murphy.
Our kids are wrestling well right now,” said John McFarland, during a morning break. “It’s their home gym.”
Other tournament results for Highland were incomplete at the press time.
