VC’s Cavalluzzo wins 800-meter run

A week after she won the 3,000 and 1,500-meter relay race during the OCIAA outdoor track championships, Valley Central’s Holly Cavalluzzo won the 800-meter run during the Section 9 championships Thursday, May 24 in the Middletown.

Cavalluzzo won with a time of 2:15.29, nipping Cornwall’s Jillian Decker, who was second with a time of 2:15.41.

“I like to change things up,” said Cavalluzzo, of running the 800 after winning the 1,500 and 3,000 a week earlier.

And it was the first time she ran the 800 this year.

“I really didn’t know what to expect,” she said, “so I just ran hard.”

Pine Bush’s Meredith Przybocki won the high jump, covering five-feet, and Wallkill’s Rebecca Drake was third. Pine Bush’s Chantal Vital was fourth in the 100-meter dash and the100-meter hurdles. Pine Bush was fourth in the 400-meter relay.

Valley Central was third in the 3,200-meter relay, and Pine Bush was fifth.

Pine Bush was sixth in team points with 44.2, and Valley Central was ninth with 21. Wallkill was 10th with 20.

In Class D, Chapel Field’s Kally Vellenga was third in the 100-meter dash, Megan McGowan was second in the 2,000-steeplechase. Chapel Field was second in the 1,600-meter relay. Chapel Field’s Alida Falkena was third in the discus and sixth in the shot-put.

Chapel Field was fourth in Class D team points with 77.

For the boys, Valley Central was fourth in Class A with 64 points and Pine Bush was sixth with 58 points. Wallkill was 11th with 22.5 points.

Pine Bush’s Austin Mermell was third in 1,600-meter run, and Adam Alharaizeh, his teammate, was third in the 3,200-meter run.

Valley Central’s Collin Sears was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, and Wallkill’s Dylan Wellmon was fifth. Valley Central’s Sam Otuonyne was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles. Valley Central was fourth in the 1,600-meter relay.

Pine Bush’s Roberto Mas was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and Pine Bush was fifth in 400-meter relay,

Wallkill’s Alex Corrado was second in the high jump, covering six-feet, four inches, and Valley Central’s Vincent Biunno second in pentathlon with 2,926 points.

Pine Bush’s Anthony Galazzo was second in the pole vault, covering 14-feet. Steve Smith, his teammate, was fourth, covering 12-feet, six inches.

Pine Bush’s Luke Porter was fourth in the long jump, and Valley Central’s Khari Harris was fifth.

Pine Bush’s Ryan Forter was third in the triple jump and Valley Central’s Sears was fourth.

Valley Central’s Zach Sherry and Joe Rosiecki went 3-4 in the shot-put, and Sherry was fourth in the discus.

Chapel Field’s Joe Baker was fourth in the boys’ Class D 400-meter run. Baker was third in the long jump. Brian Falkena, his teammate was third in the 1,600-meter run. Chapel Field was second in the 3,200-meter relay.

Matt McGowan was fourth in the triple jump, and Robert Detz was second in the shot-put.

In Class D, Chapel Field was 13th with 47 points.
