Wallkill’s gymnasts open season with win
Wallkill’s gymnastics team opened the season with a victory Thursday, Jan. 10, when they defeated Roosevelt 156.55 – 131.65.
Torey Puff led a Wallkill sweep in the all-around with Nikki Riker and Emma Frisbie. Puff also led Wallkill’s sweep in the bars, with Amanda Snyder, and Riker, and on the beam with Riker and Kelly Dahlstrom.
Wallkill also dominated the floor with a sweep, led by Puff, who was followed by Frisbie and Snyder.
Puff was second in the vault between Roosevelt’s Nikki Wowanka, the winner, and Amanda Mittermaier, in third place,
Riker placed 10th in the state last year in all-around after a third-place finish in the Section IX finals. This year she wants to go the state meet in the floor exercise.
“I didn’t place (last year),” said Riker, “but I had fun.”
