Frontera finishes third in state championships

Gianna Frontera finished third in the 3,000-meter run Saturday during the state outdoor track and field championships in Middletown.

Frontera, who won both the 2013 OCIAA and the Section 9, Class A titles in the 3,000-meter run, ran a close 3-4 with Valley Central’s Holly Cavalluzzo to finish with a time of 9:50. 44. Cavalluzzo finished fourth with a time of 9:51.96.

“My goal was to win it like I did during in indoor,” said Frontera, who won the state finals in the 2012 indoor championships.

Also in Middletown Saturday, Newburgh’s girls finished fourth in the 1.600-meter relay with a time of 3:55.16.

For the boys, Ahkeil Savage was 15th in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.55. Savage also helped the 400-meter relay team to a 12th-place finish with a time of 43.21.
