Dukes rally past Lourdes, seek revenge

When a football team is on the ropes in a big playoff game, it’s always critical to have a quarterback who’s cool under pressure. And Marlboro senior QB Ray Pacella certainly proved his championship mettle in a 38-21 comeback win for the Dukes over Our Lady of Lourdes in a State Class B quarterfinal last Friday at Kingston’s Dietz Stadium. Dukes claim 4th straight Section 9 title

Trailing by a single point to Burke Catholic early in the third quarter of the Section 9, Class B title game last Saturday night in Kingston, the Marlboro football team turned to its deadliest weapon – the squad’s unstoppable running attack. Three running plays and 69 yards later, Marlboro junior running back Rino Tamburri was charging into the end zone for the go-ahead score and the Dukes never looked back in a 25-13 win. Read more…

Dukes dump Dover, eye Burke rematch

Prior to last Saturday, Marlboro running back Rino Tamburri had only scored four touchdowns in a single game once before – when he was in middle school. He picked a heck of a game to accomplish that feat in his high school career, however: the junior powered the Marlboro football team in its postseason opener as the Dukes stampeded Dover 61-7 in a Section 9, Class B semifinal at Faller Field in Middletown. Dukes tame Huskies for fifth straight win

After dropping two of their first three games this season, the Marlboro football team appeared to be on the precipice of a rare tough season for the program. But that slow start was just a speck in the rear-view mirror as the Dukes clinched their fourth straight Section 9, Division B- I title last Friday night in a resounding 24-13 home win over Highland. It was the fifth straight win for Marlboro (6-2, 3-0 in division play), who now has a date with Dover in the Section 9, Class B playoffs this Saturday at 3 p.m. in Middletown. Read more…

Highland’s boys’ soccer team had a 1-0 lead at the half at home Thursday, Oct. 16 before Saugerties tied it 1-1 in the second half. But after putting pressure on the Sawyers’ goalie, Ben Ratick found the net for a goal as Highland won 2-1. Read more…

Panthers put away Goshen with big second half

It’s been a long time since John Demy scored a touchdown. For about 99 percent of the game, Demy lines up as the Wallkill Panthers’ offensive left tackle or on the defensive line. For one play Saturday at Goshen’s Gustafson Field, Demy was lined up in the backfield as part of the Panthers’ “heavy” package. Read more…
